Fishersfield Trail update…

Curious about the scale of damage in that 1/8 mi from the Fishersfield sign, I took 2 hours on my way to Schroeder Farm & Market Basket to check it out.

Result: after significant lopping (with more still needed both on approach road and on trail itself) of branches of fallen black birch, striped maple, and beech, the trail is open to hikers.  Chain saw needed on one tree on forest road and one more large log resting on hillside further in and uphill. More lopping ( c. 2 hrs est.) needed to finish the job. But  much more expected next year after overhanging bent trees snap or fall during winter.

Ideally someone from the Chalk Pond Assn would take responsibility for at least that short stretch of duffy hillside.  I’ve sent a message to a friend in the Assn.

Also: spoke with Rem in Sunapee who says blazing is recently improved in Webb Forest and further North to village and uphill beyond school.

First post from the Chairperson…

To the SRK membership:

There are several down trees at the Chalk Pond end of the trail making it extremely difficult to follow?  We had a work party on Saturday starting at the Newbury Harbor end going towards Chalk Pond. As we were nearing Chalk Pond trailhead, Gerry, Brian, Dudley, Kate Gordon, and I got lost.  There are probably ~100 trees down beginning on the old road at the start of the trail.  Gerry and I are going to go back up shortly and try to take care of the rest.  Its only a 1/4 mile tops that needs to be taken care of, the rest is clear.

Thanks,

Andy
